I believe it's called a plaquette but all clasps have that mounted on top of the clasp. In your case it should an extra eagle mounted with some sort of a pin through the clasp.
On your transporter the plaquette has broken off and there's just a small piece of the pin left. I've tried to show it on the the pic below.
That it's missing ought to be mentioned in the sales text.
Thank you for the information. I think I see what you are talking about - they have a small hallow eagle set atop the base one, which covers the small attachment screw, correct? What does it do to the value with it missing/what is a fair price for it in this condition?
You're welcome. Correct Why the Germans invented the extra plate instead of just adding some finish, well...? Maybe some other members here know.
I have a few clasps myself but is no expert, so how much it affects the value I'm not sure. I just think it's worth to mention so a potential buyer knows what he gets.
Thanks Frank. I will post the information in the ad and knock $75 off the price.
I appreciate your help. I recently bought out a small collection, which included these Luft. Clasps, which I have no experience with. I need to sell some of the items, but want to make sure everything is original/okay.
