    Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge

    All,

A friend found this while working at Goodwill. It looks orig. to me, but I am not an expert on these badges. What do you guys think? Is it original? The market in the US seems down right now, any ideas what these currently bring wholesale? These are the only pics I have so far, but I have asked for a pic of the back with the pin up, in order to the the makers mark. Cheers!

    Best Regards,
    Sterling

      Hi Sterling,

Looks like a good one to me. What a great find at a Goodwill store. I once found a BrĂ¼der Schneider Luftwaffe Bronze Reconnaissance Clasp at a thrift store. It doesn't happen much anymore but you just never know when something may pop up. It would be nice to see some better pictures as there are some good fakes of these. But I do like what I see so far and I would say this one is completely genuine.

      Best regards,
      Tom

From my internet searches, this looks to be a very desireable maker. Some auctions I have found have these selling at much higher prices than other makers (all other things remaining equal). Am I correct? Also, I have sold a few WWII German items in auction recently and I was a bit surprised at the low prices fetched. Any idea what these currently go for at auction?

Yes! The Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badges by R.K. and M.u.K. are the nicest ones by far IMO.

Here is a M.u.K. Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge from my collection. As you can see it is practically identical to the R.K. Both are products of Gablonz-based manufacturers in the Sudetenland.

            Best regards,
            Tom

                Sterling,
It looks like a good one to me as well. In my experience, these RKs and the MuKs do go a bit higher than other LGABs. They are not rare but not as common as some of the other makers. On the other hand, when found they often are in much better condition than the one you have, which has lost the majority of its finish. Though I haven't priced these lately as I already own examples, I'd estimate yours to be in the $300 range, though in today's depressed market it could go a little lower. Either way, a nice find in a Goodwill shop.
