I would be grateful for your help in identifying the badge worn by this pilot next to his EK1 and cloth Pilot Badge.

That occurred to me too but as he was only born on 28th September 1913, I don't think it can be.

As he fought in the Balkans, I wondered if it was perhaps Bulgarian, Croatian or some other honorary award.
