    Size comparison ROAG and Pilot

Has anyone noticed the visible size difference between Juncker pilot and ROAG badges, spesifically the wreath. It seems the ROAG Juncker is smaller than that of other makers as well as the Junckers pilot badge? Is that a common occurence amongst all luftwaffe badges? jacques

ROAG's wreath are smaller and different from pilot's wreath. Case are smaller for the reason.

        Hello Jacques,

You are right, and it only becomes obvious when you compare them side by side. From what I have seen, it must have been an original design/spec. requirement because ROAGs/AGs are always smaller than the other badges of the same set: attached are "family" pictures of my early (J1) Juncker and second pattern (D2) Deumer sets that capture the smaller ROAG size in scale to the other badges in the same set.

In your case the difference in wreath size between your Pilot & ROAG is probably even more significant because your Pilot is a J3 badge which has the broadest wreath of all the Juncker types and, your ROAG, while commonly called a J3 (third design variant) is really contemporary to the J2 period (design wise) so the wreath is narrower & not as massive which makes it look even smaller. I havent found a good J3 Pilot (yet) but I have also attached pictures of the 3 Juncker observer badges (left to right J1, J2 and J3) which use the same wreaths as the corresponding period pilots: notice the differences in "massiveness" (hope its an english word!) between the J2 & J3 wreaths

        Take care

        JC
