The black finish on the reverse looks kinda weird don't you think?

Hammer and sohn is known for having a dark coating on the Erd badges. The highlights shows the gray color of the zinc base metal.

                Hi guys,

Are we really sure that the badge that started this thread is a Hammer & Sohn? IMO it is definitely not a "textbook" Hammer & Sohn. Yes! It looks similar in many ways, but I also see too many differences. Have a look at this thread starting with post #7.

A fake imo. Pitting on the reverse, weird pin and catch and weird finish. All red flags imo

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

You are right. I looked at the photos a second time. This is a fake.

Sorry for my first opinion. I have to clean my glasses better next time.

                          Hello
few years ago I have start investigated regarding this badge, unfortuatly this version of badge didn't find it in book, which always is taken as reference for badges on the market. I found the badge and checked what material was used to production of it. Finaly this is my results: the badge is heavier and thicker than regullar H&S, material is tough as a zinc, not flexible like material used in a copies. Badge has different type of eagle, different version of rivert and shape of wreath, the catch of the badge is encountered in two version - silvering or brass. I have to say that Is completely differen badge not H&S and compare two badges togather is not good way maybe. The badge in thread is not good example strange black color (maybe painted). The badges are beeig found in different conditin with good silver plating, as well as silvering is ubsobed by base material ( see a photos). I have a doubut to the badge but to me the badge is closer to an unknown producer than copy of H&S, Of course I can be wrong, but I would like to share my point of view. What is your opinion?

                              Hi Krysztof,

You can find these with with other maker marks on them, which is a major red flag. I have a few marked for Gustav Brehmer, here is one. No doubt fakes IMO.
