    Hi Bob,

The badge is original, but catch is definitely replaced. That is why its priced so low, an intact one would be about 900 euros.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

      Hello Bob,

Nice original and I also think the Catch is repaired and not mentioned in the sale thread.

Exactly as the guys have said: this is an original textbook Berg & Nolte pilot badge with a repaired catch. No way to know if the repair was period or postwar. But the badge is in otherwise very good condition and IMHO a bargain at this price. B&NL's are nice POs in my estimation.

          BNL p/b

          Gentlemen,

          Yes, I have made a mistake !

I should have posted it for inspection first !

          1) I had purchased the badge amongst the very first ones

I never enjoyed it so it had been kept in drawer no 7 and I spotted it in

an abandoned box just before offering it !

          2) When the first interested / potential buyer brought up

the/a repair of the catch I immediately offered to withdraw it from the market !

          3) I contacted the seller immediately (forum member !) in

order to get an explanation why he sold it to me

as an original / 'no issue' badge !!

          4) The seller could not remember !

          5) 6 years ago I had paid roughly 1000.- € not least

because the seller knew the pilot and confirmed that it had been worn

during the 'Battle of Britain' !!

          6) Meanwhile I have have come to amicable terms with a buyer !

                    BNL p/b

                    Yes Sir,

it had been nicely camouflaged by some artificial patina !

Same honorable forum member that shipped only one badge

                    when paid for two !

Hi Tom, just wandering does the fact that a pilot badge or any other badge is named makes it more expensive?, the reason why I ask is because I have one named BNL and NO I am not selling it for a very long time

I don't think a name makes a badge more expensive, it stays the same as long as it has no repair. Except if it comes out of a grouping with rock solid provenance and it's a famous pilot... maybe people pay additional $ than.
It's a nice bonus that you have possible info about the recipient, but no extra value as you have no clue when the engraving was done. Wartime or postwar.
Imagine it has a surplus in value.. i think we will see a lot of 'named' badges than.
