Well I think most collector would have Dr K's books. An old has been well, possibly if you read that which he wrote you might have another perspective. Frank has put it well, these are questionable. But one has to have the pieces in ones hands. As to Black and White, we all make mistakes. I know I have and I am quite sure DN will say he has as well. In his first book he states the Dr K thery in his 2nd he takes a different stance.

That is the retorical question asked of any Expert. But he enjoyed the patronage of many othe scollarly writers, David Littlejohn to name one. Is he an old has been?

hi warlord alot of mistakes have been made in the past but i think dn has made a flawless new book and i believe everything in it to be true,
it is known that all the old school big experts have made big mistakes ,wh awards and dn are the only experts i have time for ,
i would have a look at doc k,s book or whatever but would not take it to seriously on the balloon badge because its fake and thats all there is to it for me.

upbeek, its dangerous to think anyones book is perfect, especially if the author is a dealer. To date every dealer has either unknowing or knowing sold a fake piece..Todays dealer gods will be tomorrows has beens.......

It has always been a pointless discussion and this one will make no exception. No book is perfect and Detlev´s is no exception. I am sure he himself would never claim his book to be perfect. Keep up a critical stance with all books you read and you will learn far more. Every book has its value and Klietmann´s books certainly hold a lot of value as well. Are there mistakes? Yes, quite some, but the info he provided in the first decades after the war was revolutionary by then. Let´s hope collectors in 50 years will laugh about our beloved books of today. We are on a good way to not just collect reported facts and repeat old mistakes but look at badges in a new, more scientific way. It will open up new roads and unfortunately cause some new mistakes along the way. No big chance without a big risk.
                        Cheers, Frank

AS AN ASIDE ALL DEALERS HAVE THERE PITCH. If you wish to think Dm is God then please carry on. I could say how many big important colections have you viewed? What are your credentials? But back to the main point you think, but have no proof, that this award is a fake. I will not argue with you on the point. I take it you have examined the pieces. You have knoledge, first hand, of hand produce items? I could go on. If you want to us the DN book as you "Holy Grail" so be it.

                            Dear Chris,

                            Let me rephrase that:

I could say how many big important colections have you viewed?
"How many big important collections have you viewed AND RIPPED APART?" would be more appropriate for credentials!

Just joking guys. This balloon thing is so boring.
                            Cheers, Frank

Frank again you put it so well. Again as a numismatist I have viewed these awards over a long time and the evidence from the examples shown give credance to production in late 1944 to early 45. If you wish to talk more it would be better by old fashioned phone. I would love to have conversation with you on the matter. As to our VERY WELL INFORMED FRIEND, I would advise that he was more latteral in his thinking.

Why has a photo of one in wear never surfaced ?

Why were they made in tombak and not zinc like the partisan badge ?

I was sat on the fence on this one but i,m leaning more to the fact that these are not right .
