Just picked this up from a "non-collector". Funny thing is, it only has one wing and looks like it was made that way. The other wing has a real curve to it. Any ideas?

One Wing Luft Flack Badge

I too have what looks like a one wing flak with what looks like same hardware, same maker, my thought was a defect badge that was found after war liberated by Allied soldiers. No sign of sanding or being broken off, just not there, I had this at the Union NJ show and meant to show it to other members there but got sidetracked. Weird never saw one before and now 2 within 6 months. TPK

It must be raining "one-wing" ball hinge flak badges this week because Carsten Baldes has also sold one exactly like this, on his last up-date on Friday;
http://www.militaria-baldes.de/en/ca...6/0/13518.html
Never seen anything like it ever before, now I have seen two in less than 5 days and a third reported on this thread.
What going on here and what exactly are these ???

Interesting indeed Chris. I have seen a few one-wing flaks over the years, and they always seem to be the ball hinge maker for some reason. Maybe its just a coincidence because the ball hinge flaks are the most common flak badge to be found. It would be interesting to see these in hand to see if the finish actually covers the broken area of the wing as Clestuff's apparently does.
TomIf it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a littleNew Book - The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II

Any update on these, I now own and have in hand the badge that started this thread. It is not broken or repaired, it was defiantly made this way!
It is actually quite attractive, stylistically.Attached FilesLast edited by nzef1940; 02-23-2016, 06:00 AM.

Hi guys,
Today I got another one wing FLAK example right from vet family. He returned to US on July, 1945 and served in Austria and Czechoslovakia area, rest of the badges proof that, they are all from Gablonz , FLL and S&l firms.
A s you see on pics, looks like it was done this way, no broken , just made this way. This is not a first "ball hinge" example with one wing. So what would be your opinion on this "type". Bad die, change design to safe material or something else. real mystery.
Also another good badge construction observation on my example. The eagle is not solder to wreath, it's moving around one point, looks to me like a rivet under ball hinge.Attached Files
