Early Assmann Pilot's Badge with Flat Pin

Hi Everyone,

I got this one in the post today and thought I'd share it with you all: an early Assmann (with flat pin), cased and with miniature. It's a veritable beauty IMHO.

On the subject of the pin, from searching the forum, I see that Francois has a similar example, also with a flat pin. As with Francois's example, I am confident that the pin on mine is original to the piece - it is not a replacement.

I'm not sure about the pin, but IMO the rivets are actually correct for the earliest of the early. I think they were having problems perfecting the rivets at first. Mine is exactly the same including the marks on the wreath.
I've seen two others with this "feature" also.

don´t let Neil get you down, even if the right hand rivet has(possibly)been tapped a couple of times its still a really great find. Remember my first comment when I only saw the front was that the pin was replaced, looking at it with these pics and in reference to Francois's one, I think the pin is original to it.
The front is amazing, to find these with that sort of detail left is a highlight.

interesting reverse side in this badge !

pin looks is its original but is the first time I see like that and rivets don't seam to be replaced, normally look like these ones in alu badges but I have seen again with strong copper rivets.

A beautiful badge -- and cased to boot. The area around the legs is so delicate it's amazing these badges don't break apart there.

Is the mini an original? I've got one like it and always wondered...

IMHO, the pin is a period replacement, rivets are OK for the early types, the case is, however, a later addition as the earlier cases are devoid of the word 'Luftwaffe'..
