"Unmarked Maker" Pilot Badge - Something Interesting

    Hello All,
I just received in this Pilots Badge in from Detlev. I didn't notice this when ordering, but it's as plain as day now that it's in hand. I direct your attention to the pin in particular - see something there that we sometimes see on Gebruber Wegerhoff Badges? Just a little additional tidbit for those of you like myself who believe these were GWL badges. I found this very interesting because this is the first time I've seen a badge from the "Unknown Maker" with barber polling on the pin. Does anyone else have this anomoly on their badges by the "Unknown Maker"?? Just curious.
    Regards,
    ERIC

        Hi Eric,

Here's mine, from the same series (with the die mark to the the reverse of the wreath)... No rolling marks. The differences are probably due to a new stock of wire being obtained and used at sometime during the production of this particular series.

I'll show something else. The following Pilot's Badge was for sale some time ago, with a faint vestage of a maker's mark. I think this is the closest we have come to finding out who the maker of these badges was:

Faint trace of a maker's stamp:

Running this maker's stamp through a few Photoshop filters and blurs, you get something that looks like a "1" over a "2":

Maybe it was the price rubber stamped on?

Hard to tell. This is the only Pilot's Badge that I've seen this stamp on. A true anomaly.

Thanks guys for the posts. No more of these style Pilot Badges with barber polling on the pin?? I thought for sure at least one other member here would / could have this anomoly on their example, be it a zinc or buntmetall example.
