    Meybauer Observers Badges

    Hi All,

so cottoning on to Gordons question about Meybauer Pilots Badges.
The badge on the right came from my father and is so without question an original.
The one on the right was recently bought by me as a copy from a fleamarket dealer.
The eagles are just about idetical but the wreaths are both totally different, the silver one being much bigger, also the hige set up is different.
Is the one on the left a copy or have I just got a great bargin?

Both look ok to me... but the pictures are blurry so it's not so easy to be 100% sure!

Thanks very much for replying Richard, sorry that the pics were so blurry, I borrowed a camera to take them.
I have today seen the same Meybauer on Detlevs site, so it looks like I got a bargin.

                    Skip,

I had meant to post these earlier and lost track of the thread. Here's my Meybauer Observer. Nice heavy nickel-silver piece with case.

                    Dimensions:
                    Weight:43.1 grams
                    Width (wreath): 43 mm
                    Width (wingtips): 52 mm
                    Height: 52 mm

Note the difference in hinge from yours. Also, on your badge, the one you say is silver, it appears to have a base plate under the catch, is that correct? Are you sure this isn't a zinc piece as well?

Also, your write-up is confusing as you call out the piece on the right as the one you got from your father and the one you recently got at a flea market. I will say this: The maker's mark on the badge that is spelled out looks good to me. Elongated letter "P" and the letters "R" and "B" look like a Meybauer style stamp.

                    Tim

                        Hi tball,

                        thanks for the pics.
You are of course right, the silver one is zinc and has a plate under the hook.
The one on the right (grey) i recieved from my father, who bought it back 1945 from France.
I am now satisfied that the silver one is orig. after i saw it on Detlevs site.
