    Paul Meybauer Pilot Badge

    Hello Guys,

While I was doing the Database I get into some threads about Paul Meybauer zinc pilot badge and it raise my interest for this very uncommon badge. I have read and research about this topic and was able to get many convincing informations and facts that, I think, these are original Meybauer pilot badge. But not long ago I was surprise to find one for sale from my friend Jurgen and decide to go for it. After recived it, I start to compare with other Meybauer zinc badge (Observer, PAB, KM) and I quick realized my tought and confirmed my search. The details of the badge is outstanding, the eagle wings and the eagle are fully detailled, the wreath is the same wreath use on Meybauer late war zinc Observer. The hinge is typical PM late war zinc, the rivets are textbook and the catch is found on Zinc PM Observer but also on Meybauer Heer and KM badges. I also think they are base on the juncker J3 eagle design. As far im concerne there's is only 3 examples: mine, one from another member and one in the database. All of them have the same caracteristics and all have the finish gone. Originaly this badge was purchase directly from a Vet relative but unfortunately I don't have more informations and It is not possible to have any either....

    What you guys think?

    Seb

Overall, I like them and think they are war time. I don't think fakers can get this level of details and reproduce the hardware, rivets with this quality. A picture would resolve the mistery for me but I think evidences are there.

Nickel silver and buntmetal badge don't really have any secret anymore but when it come to late war zinc badge I think there is more to be discover. That variant received many thumbs up in the past and I add more informations this time....

Hope you like this thread and I would like to read what you guys are thinking about these. If anyone like to have it in hand I will be more than happy to bring it with me at the SOS.

                        Cheers

                        Seb

                            Hi Seb,

Great badge, very, very rare to find this type. I can only agree with all you wrote, textbook Meybauer wreath, rivets, hinge, catch and even the slight flattening of the pin. The dimensions are also spot on for a Meybauer wreath. As you know there are very well made and highly detailed fakes of the Meybauer wreath, but the dimensions are consistently smaller than originals. The fact that your dims check out only confirm for me this is a rare, wartime-made Meybauer Pilot badge. Congrats on adding such a rarity to your excellen collection.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                              Hey Tom,

Thank you for your confirmation....I also forgot to mention that the same wreath, hinge and rivets are also use on Meybauer para. Your right these wreath are very fake with high quality fakes but still have many red flags. I have in file something Tom Y. did some time ago about these fake wreath. One think is also very consistent is the way eyes are done on PM badges.

                              Comparaison with Para badge
