Wide Pin Juncker GAB for review

    Hi All

I got this LW GAB today

    A nice wide pin example

but I have a only question about the tombak eagle attachment, one rivet attached.
Please see below pic with RED Arrows
Is the soldering work looks good to you?
    a post war repair???

hope there is nothing I should worry about.
    thanks

Looks like the eagle was resoldered. Impossible to tell, when this was done.

Thanks to the quick response, but any Juncker example could compare?

You can often find Juncker attributed Erdkampfabzeichen with out the eagle. It was a weak point in the production, that the eagle was fixed often a bit sloppy.

On your badge i think the eagle was a bit sloppy and had become a bit additional solder.

It is a nice and rare badge that you have found. I like it very much and the additional solder it is not a big red flag imo.

              Hi Eric,

have this pics from an good collecting friend, so i think he have nothing against when i post the pics. We spoke a few months ago about this Juncker "Erdkampfabzeichen". There is often a big gap between the eagle and the badge to find, the fitting was often very sloppy.

In Sascha Webers "Erdkampfabzeichen" book, is a good pic, where you can see this too very good.

              Regards
              Joe

                Hi Joe

                thanks for the great pics.
but, was that additional work from the soldier itself?
                or the factory original work?

                thanks

I don`t know, when the additional soldering was made. Soldering work looks similar to your badge.

From an construction standpoint, it would seem that a single rivet would be prone to movement, and the solder was added to make the attachment more secure (done at factory would be my Guess)

It would seem that the eagles, on these LGAB's, were indeed very fragile...

Damage could happen anywhere....even at a wedding!

Yes, I would tend to agree. If the eagle wasn't rivetted just right and tight onto the badge, I could see it moving around and JT's pictures show this quite well, thanks for posting these John.

The soldering looks pretty consistent between these two examples and I think that lends some credibility to this being added at the factory by Juncker.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
