    Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge

    Hey guys,

I don't frequent this portion of the forums often, since I'm a helmet collector, but I was hoping you guys would be kind enough to offer up some opinions of this LW Ground Assault Badge. It isn't mine, but a friends who acquired it about 12 years ago. He showed it to me, amongst many other very nice awards, but stated to me that he has reason to doubt its authenticity. He didn't like the catch, or in some cases, the lack of detail.

Since I know very little about these, I thought I would see if you guys can help out a bit. I don't want to make any claim as towards whether it being real or not because I just don't know. I would probably side towards it being no good because of it just seems more flimsy and not as well made as others I have seen. I'll let you guys tell me though!

      Hi Chris,

You guys came to the correct conclusion this indeed is a fake based on the late war LGAB with cast in hinge and catch. On this one the sloppy set-up and the very irregular contours of the wreath are easy give-aways.

Thank you Philippe. It is unfortunate, but I think we both expected what more advanced collectors would conclude, so it isn't much of a shock or anything

Amazing how, not knowing much about the badge, some simple "gut feelings" of it come true. However, I'm sure there are much more advanced fakes out there.

Thanks again Philippe, it is most appreciated.
