I guess I'm a rebel . In the context of collecting German militaria, I believe 'Spanish Cross' is a well-established and accepted term, much like 'Westwall' medal, 'Russian Front' medal, etc.

I think 'Spanish Cross' and 'Spain Cross' can coexist peacefully side-by-side.

P.S. Nice example by the way!

Ha! For me it's like saying the world is flat can live side by side with the world is round. It's pitch forks and torches time.

      And yes it's very nice!!!

BTW before Hans jumps on me... Here is an Otto Schickle. Yours I think may be using leftover Otto parts in my opinion. Look carefully at the sword hilts.

What do you think? Pin and hinge different but I don't know how many different setups OS might have used.

              Spain / Spanish cross

              Gentleman,

at the end of the day it's a German award !

In German it is called "Spanien Kreuz" !

              It is up to the English speaking collector community to call it ;

"Spain cross" / Spanish cross" ...

it ain't gonne make no difference !

To a certain extend we encounter similar arguments when it comes

to 'time lines' / makers - sub makers etc ...

guys... it had been war time and who cared ... !!!!

This box or that box ... war/bombing/disrupted supply lines/etc ...

Nothing had been done 'text book' in those days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's be very carefull when talking about :

              'mint' / textbook / makers / etc ...

commanding in the field means to settle with whatever is available !!!

              Main emphasis : clean / proper / functional !!!!!!!!!!!!

don't quote me when exactly that attitude started to dominate ....

but one thing is for sure :

the 'front line' troops did what they felt to be appropriate !

The right badge / the proper name played the very least part of it !!!

Yes, you are right. It seems to me too, the engraves on the hilts not same.

Could you post a picture from the back side?

                Thanks,
                Gabor

Here you go. Clasp on yours looks to me without much doubt to be OS. I am just not sure what manufacturer yours is... Woof, a little early to be hitting the squeeze.

                    You nailed it again, Brian!

Some people call badges medals. Is that OK, too?

Can you see a Spanish Cross in this photo? In English, Spanish has a distinct meaning from Spain.

Thanks for the picture from the back side.

It's really interesting. The hinge, the pin and the engraves on the hilts are very different.

                          Thanks again,

                            same feeling as Brian.
Not a pure textbook Otto Schickle. Certainly made with parts of the stock for Zimmermann, Mayer or Foerster. I would say Mayer.

Since we're on the subject, who really made this one then?

Detlev had a Mayer. Best I can do on that one. Hilt still looks different but hard to see this one. But certainly Jacques is right that Mayer used OS parts! So maybe?
