    Ritterkreuzträger Gerhard Walther, Schlachtgeschwader 4

Ok.. no badge.. but I guess still very interesting. Today I got this very nice and quit rare " Zigarrenkiste". It belongs to Ritterkreuzträger Gerhard Walther, 4 Schlachtgeschwader. He also was awarded with german cross in gold, honour goblet etc. He got this Zigarrenkiste from his Geschwader after winning the Ritterkreuz! Sadly no decorations, documents etc left. Maybe somebodey knows there the estate is or knows the owner ?

Looks pretty new to me? Has it been cleaned?

Yes it was cleand they told me. And I forgot to mention that the black fabric inside is not original to the Zigarrenkiste. The ground of inside was not very clean, so he decided to get the fabric insinde. But I can remove it if I want. But I still think it looks " ok ".

You can see the dirt and dust clearly between the letters. But I guess that is still not very good visible in the photos.

I tried to make close ups from the letters. I guess you can see the dirt and dust ( mostly black or dark brown ) bewtween the letters. Maybe the Zigarrenkiste was waxed , but I am not sure. Sometimes sellers try to "clean" items to make more profite. That is the same on edged weapons, badges etc.... they cant understand that collectors looking for "patina"

I had to decide if I should clean the letters too ( maybe with a Q-tip ) but I decided to leave it alone.

my first photos alooks to " bright " and " shiney " the Box is much darker in real, like you can see on my latest photos. I know how to photograph badges etc but bigger items in natural light are always tricky for me.

yes , I feel same....but I would like it much better uncleaned. But thats the way it comes. Otherwise a cleaned knight cross is still a knight cross, right?
