      Hi Roman,

Never seen anything like it but nothing screams fake to me. Looks like somebody once painted the badge gold but most of that finish is gone again.

Curious to find out if other members know this Glider badge.

        Philippe,

Thank you very much for your opinion.
I also puzzled about this badge.
But I like badges that makes me puzzled.

        Roman

          Hi Roman,
I agree with Phillipe. Nice sharp detail (maybe you could post a pic of the edges of the wreath?). The thing I was wondering about was the hinge, something looks different about it (but I'm still learning too )

            Dear Roman,

I was offered this badge before it went to where you seem to have bought it. I thought it is a good badge. Not something you see every day (the soldered on eagle and the hinge), but the badge made a good overall impression to me (and still does).

@Philippe: the finish is not golden in real life, Roman´s scan makes it appear that way.
            Cheers, Frank

              Agree!

Looks like a nice zinc Glider Badge. I think we have seen only a few examples with this catch/hinge/eagle attachment combination, but they all looked appropriate to me. A search under this forum might yield additional examples of this badge.

                Hi Roman,

                Beautiful badge.

You can see the other version ( with the holes between the swastika arms
and with "big" rivets that hold the wings ) here in Wehrmacht-Awards :
                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/war_...der_badge1.htm

However, I thought that your type should have the ball type of hinge and
not the barrel but maybe both types of hinges can be on both types of
glider badges. ( I'm trying to learn here ).

Also I thought ( LOL ) that the "c" shape hook should be more rounded
and not "boxy" with sharp edges.

And I also thought ( )that even on this type which should have the flat
rivets you can still see the rivets "base". Maybe they are hiding behind the
                color

Ok, everybody feel free to flame me, I had to "ask" these questions :o)

                Regards,

                Ran

P.s. : Isn't that middle finger a tad bigger than it should be ?

                    old thread back again

                    Hi,

I wish to bring this old thread back again under the attention, i have found that some of these badges (with exact the same characteristics of the eagle, the wreath, the wreath attachement system, etc ... ) are maker marked with L/58 (Rudolf Souval, Wien).

                    Cordial greetings,

                      Hi Stijn,

Any chance of a picture? If they are indeed the same that isn't very promissing for all badges featuring this set-up, certainly not if you take in to account this recently posted B&NL marked LGAB

                        Hi - the pictures

                        Hello,

One can find such a example of a marked badge at the website of H.Weitze (Number: 5688 : Segelflugzeugführer-Abzeichen Kriegsmetall, Hersteller: L/58, Adler aufgenietet, an dünner senkrechter magnetischer Nadel, Zustand 2)

                        Cordial greetings,

                          Thanks for the link Stijn.

Well I don't know about you guys but I find this very worrying. Badges with a unique set-up that all of a sudden start to appear with different maker marks. When I think of it untill about a year ago I never noticed this specific set-up and all of a sudden quite a few of these badges seem to pop up. Only recently one of these gliders sold on a German auction site for €350, for a while I even considered bidding on it.

                            glider pilots badge

                            Hello Philippe,

This is indeed a confusing game, this type of glider pilots badges are arround now for quite some time (several years).

I personally have never believed in these just because of the detail at the eagle, etc ... With this info; the maker mark found on this one (L/58) + the different maker marks found on the very same type of wreathsetup does not make me believe more in these. Quite the contrary !

Anyway i am looking forward towards some more opinions on this particularry matter.

                            Cordial greetings,

@ P: Iff you are offered a glider badge at 350 € then you are either one very lucky person (this will be true in a very rare ocassion) or you are ready to loose some money and have a piece with ????
