    GWL Para

Hi guys, this flew in today, the last of 2013
It is a type A GWL with the lovely detailed and quality finished eagle with burnished swaz. Most of the black brennlack finish remains to the obverse of the wreath. The only downside is the typical wreath crack at the left rivet, I suppose the finisher was a bit heavy handed.
    Any comments welcome.
All the best for the New Year.
    Greg

        Hi Greg,

Great GWL in very nice condition. Looks like a textbook Type A in every regard, great addition.

The crack to the left rivet is very common to find on GWL badges as you know, but I wonder if it actually broke after it was out of the factory. The pin looks a little beat up, same with the catch so I wonder if this one saw a little action or was worn a bit by the recipient which actually caused the break.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Hi Tom, after giving it some more thought I agree, the quality control which was in operation would probably have meant that such a fracture wouldn't have made it out of the factory. There are definite signs of wear, the bottom of the pin is bent up which I can only think would be done to assist in retention on a uniform as the catch on the GWLs can be quite shallow.
As you know, I like mine to have a bit of wear and character.
            Cheers & best - Greg

              Hi Greg,

Super nice badge, even with the cracked wreath. And I really like the look of the dark altsilber wreath contrasting to the bright gold eagle. I had one just like this back in the 70s and it was the only badge I ever regretted selling. Maybe I will get another one of these days?

              Best regards,
              Tom
