Glider Badge by Osang, Juncker or Fake

    Hi Everyone.

I have recently acquired a Glider Badge I wanted to share with all of you for your thoughts and opinions.

This badge is unmarked except for an "800" stamped on the reverse side of the Eagle. This piece weighs 33.18g., is 41x54mm and the eagle wingspan is 51mm. Swastika is not cut-out.

My scanning equipment and digital camera won't give me the close-ups I want of the rivets and other close-ups I wish to share, but I can tell you the left rivet hole is large enough to see that the core material of the wreath is buntmetall and IMHO the wreath is silver plated and because the pin is so very pliable and soft, is 800 silver.

Who made this badge? And is it original period. Scans to follow and any education and opinions are very much appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Dan

My opinion is that this badge is not original to the period. Both design and construction do not match any known originals in their form. The patina also looks fake. Original 800 marked silver flight badges conform to the design of a known maker (e.g. C.E. Juncker), while this badge does not conform to any maker.

              Yuri,

When I first saw the PIC of the hinge, I thought it might be a Juncker, however, when the badge arrived, the pin clearly does not conform to that maker's pin design.

The reverse side of the wreath certainly is polished, looks like Grandma's silver!

I have never owned a Glider Badge and this is a new experience. I appreciate the comments. A wise man once said "if it is too good to be true, it probably is."

              More comments?

              Dan.

                Hi Dan,

I am with Yuri here: not original to the period.
                Cheers, Frank

                  Glider pilots badge

                  Hello,

The verdict on this badge is very simple => it is a fake one.

The overal quality of the badge is not as it should be, the eagle is very crudely made and there is not one original (in the known original producers, etc ..) with the characteristics of the badge as shown here.

There is at this point never encountered a original real silver Glider pilots badge. I can go on but i am with both Yuri and Frank on this one.

                  Cordial greetings,
my collectionfield : German glider pilots
