Thanks for the nice comments guys....and just for the record, we have plenty of sunny days in England. Blue skies and white fluffy clouds this morning (but it won't last....).

Award yourself a large beer Walter - it is Kronstadt, the naval base of Leningrad.

The 'Marat' was sunk here but the ship I had in mind, which reportedly was hit by Rudel, is 'October Revolution'. His bomb apparently hit the forward magazine and this blew off the bow. As she settled on the bottom of the harbour the Russians continued to use the surviving turrets against land targets, which remained a thorn in the side of the German land forces besieging the city. She is the ship inside the harbour wall in the clear picture and you can see the oil continuing to form a slick beside her. A close examination shows the bows are detached from the rest of the ship.

Hi Walter - just checking my files again I see I owe you an apology. It was indeed the Marat pictured in these photos and the Marat that had its bows blown off by a bomb dropped by Rudel. Well done to you. The October Revolution was there but only relatively lightly damaged in this raid.
