    Hi Frank (et al),

Great heads'up on the 70s S&L knock-offs!! Much appreciated. The pin looks wrong as you say, but from the image the finish on the obverse looks quite convincing. It's really good to be able to nail a bad badge/clasp as definitely being bad!

Re the circle mark, I'm wondering if it was scored/punched into the die as a possible guide for a second rivet, as it would be in about the right place.

      Hi Trent ...

Further to our previous discussion, that first gold clasp you picture is not the same die as the others ... look at the shape of the cutouts ... and it doesn't have the extra metal adjacent to the 'stem' of the oakleaf on the right wing (obverse view) ... compare this to the others - I've marked the spots to look at on one of the silver clasp pics. Hope that makes sense

      Regards
      Paul

Thanks for that I will take it on board.

Frank has informed me that the silver clasps are OK and are war period awards. So now all I have to do is try and get the price down a little with the dealer.

        Thanks for the advice mate.

          Nelly,

All silver clasps might be ok, but some of the pictures have very bad resolution. The one I can see best is the #1, as I said. I am sure the gold class is fine as well, but these pictures are really bad.
          Cheers, Frank

              Hi Chris,

The "Bronze" clasps can be encountered in three major tones: bronze in all variations; olive; and chocolate brown.

              Best regards,
              Albert

                    Hi Chris,

As far as you pictures allow to see, all the clasps you have are made of zinc.
                    Cheers, Frank

thanks frank. i will take some closer pics of the one in question in day light tomorrow, which hopefully show the base metal as not zinc.

                          A little lost here guys.

Frank mentioned looking at the arrow details which as I read it (possibly wrongly) should be of the = horizontal type on genuine examples yet all the examples posted by NellyP51 have the arrow lines going vertical?

                          Thanks in advance all.

                            Hi Angus ...

Frank's comments were in relation to fighter clasps (with the arrow as the central device - presumably the "=" simulates the binding on an arrow) ... Nellie's pics are of bomber clasps (winged bomb).

Hope that clarifies the issue ...

                            Regards
