LW Pilot Badge -Inspection Pass or Fail

Thanks for the help on that last dismal badge. Let's see if this one fares any better!

    Hi Tod
I think you have a well known fake. This badge is made with almost all of the makers marks on them. Here is a thread that shows the same badge that has been aged to help it pass as a good Juncker badge. The wreath is based on an Assmann wreath. If I'm wrong sorry but I don't think it's good. You can do a search and find many good badges to compair it to here, just use the search tab at the top of the page.

But man, they're getting close to perfecting that MM.

And look at those pinched rivets!

They are actually managing to match eagles with MMs nowadays as well. When thats not got to do with the Forum!

It is an unfair world, when all you are interested in is collecting, and the world just wants to rip you.

Just bad form I say, bad form.

I agree, a well known fake, the "dipped wreath" one.
I would not get too upset about the perfection of the maker mark. That eagle looks cast from an original example, so it is no wonder the maker mark seems to be spot on. But it is blurry (casting) and that will always give it away. I do not think it is posible to recreate a maker mark with all its tiny characteristics 100% if you do not just cast it from an original.

And the pinched rivets are wrong for this badge anyway.

And what badges do the pinched rivets correctly belong to Yuri?

Frank ... what is the dipped wreath you refer to? That space between the bottom of the swastika and the wreath? If so ... does this dip exist on ANY real Badges?

                  Thanks.

                    Dear Darrell,

Yes, that is the area you describe. The wreath is cast from an original Assmann wreath. These (original) Assmann wreathes do have this dip, albeit not that much pronounced.
                    Cheers, Frank

Here's a comparison of two original 'Assmann' wreaths (1st & 2nd pattern) with the Fake below.. As can be seen, once the "dipped wreath" has been catalogued in the brain it makes it easier to pick out.

                        Hi,

IMO, the dip associated "chunkier" wreath is much easier to pick from the reverse profile.

Also, John T-W, if you're feeling up to it, it would be worth including a shot of a LATE war zinc Assmann (eg Para Badge) as the dips on these are much more pronounced and imo the basis for the repro wreaths.

                        Regards

Here you go.. Two other 'Assmann' types, The upper = combined Bunt/alu, the lower being the late zinc..

                            Tod,

These badges mostly have domed rivets with a circular plateau on top, like a flat area, not piched.
