    Flight Clasps #2

Yes, more Flight Clasps. And probably more after this! For you inspection are two tombak Bombers, and one zinker.

The chocolate Bronze has a crack in the wreath at about the 4 o'clock position. The Silver seems fine. Has it been determined that the characteristics of these two clasps are Juncker-ish?

And the third is a Gold Bomber with Pendent. The reverse of the clasp has the S&L 'o' makermark. Not sure what the latest opinions are on S&L wartime Flight Bars. It looks convincing to me, but I'm sure others have their opinions as well. Please feel free to share.

    Thanks Again,
    Mark

I really like the bronze clasp and I believe that a little crack hurts no one. The silver is a very gussy and bright example also.
My interest in this area lies strictly in earlier war examples so I don't have an opinion on the S&L.

      Thanks Frank,

I really like the chocolate Bronze 'toning' as well. A 'little crack' never bothered me either.

I have a nice bronze bomber with a manufacturing crack just like this one, a very common thing.

Appreciate you guys taking the time and providing feedback. Any comments, one way or another, on the S&L marked clasp?

I'm trying to get some 'definatives' on all my clasps, before putting them on the Estand. I don't want any 'unhappy campers' or surprises.

Someone was asking about the 'cutouts'. They are not perfectly triangular, and they are not perfectly round. Does he have cause for concern?

                  Thanks,

To be honest Mark, the silver class bomber bar does not give me that 'one look' feeling. I think the clasp has been refinished/painted or something. When you look at the obverse top of the wreath it seems to be missing detail and the reverse of the winged bomb section looks artifical somehow. Also given that the rivet is obliterated adds to my feeling the clasp is refinished. Maybe a ground dug example or something.

                      Rich,

Thanks for the input. Here is a close-up of the center obverse. The top of the wreath seems (to me, at least) to have the same amount of detail as the rest of the wreath. As to the reverse 'artificial' ness you are seeing ... It looks like tarnish in the edges of the recess. I don't think I want to clean it, as to make the entire back look immaculate. As to the rivet, you are correct. It is pretty well staked in place. Neither Acetone or Ronson lighter fluid has any effect on the silver finish.

The badge is hard to photograph, because the silver just reflects the light, and the image tends to wash out.
