1942 Medaille Luftsperrabteilung 2/101

Hello All,

I found this one antiquing today.

There are a few threads on this medal, however none with any pictures, so I thought I would post mine as reference. It seems to be a nicely struck tombak piece. I'll post weight and measurements later, if interested.

Jamie Cross, on his website, http://www.thirdreichmedals.com/unof.html, describes it as follows:

"An unofficial Luftwaffe Medal showing a barrage type balloon with a shield and a bat emblem on it, several years before Batman came into vogue!! The other side shows a Luftwaffe eagle and the date 1942 and the wording LUFTSPERRABTEILUNG 2/101. Quite an unusual item to find. I have only seen one other. "

I just picked one up, too. The division was station in Lülsdorf by Cologne and is mentioned in 1943 here: http://www.luftfahrtarchiv-koeln.de/1940_start.htm

"Zur Kölner Luftabwehr gehören auch die Luftsperrabteilungen: bei Lülsdorf die Luftsperrabteilung 101 und bei Leverkusen die Luftsperrabteilung?"
