    Luftwaffe GAB unknown maker.

    Gentlemen,

Please can anyone enlighten me on this LGAB, there is no maker mark but it appears to have an inscription on the reverse, sadly the pin and catch are no more.

    My thanks in advance,

    Regards,

    Stuart.

      Hi Stuart,

Its an original, thought to be by Hammer & Sohne as several of these have been found in marked packets by this firm. Along with the pin and catch, its also missing the separately-attached metal eagle.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

        Thomas,

Thank you for the reply, I will have to do some research. I did not realise it was missing a separately applied eagle.

        Atleast its original

        Regards,

        Stuart

I have often wondered if all of these were issued with the seperately applied eagle ???

It seems to start off they were but later in the war, this maker seemed to stop doing it.

I have had more than one directly from NZ veterans brought back from Italy 44-45 without the eagle still attached. On the other hand, I have had two or three with the seperate eagle in place.

The eagles are always tight and never lose so why did so many fall off in battle ???

There is no other maker that I know of that lost the eagle off their badges on such a regular basis so why this one. You do not see Osang's, RK's or MuK5's without eagles.

          My belief is that we have an early and late model;

Early 1943-44 have the seperately applied eagle

Late 1944-45 no longer has the seperate eagle

Some time in 1944 they stopped and just made it a one piece badge,

          Chris
