    Paratrooper Badge - Opinions Please?

    Hello:

What is the opinion of others regarding this DEUMER made paratrooper award ?

The pin has been repaired at some stage - possibly period, but who knows for sure...

I currently have a hold on this badge, pending forum opinions.

    Images from vendor!

    Thank you, WilloW

Looks like a good Deumer with replaced pin. Let's confirm with the others as I'm still learning

Looks like a good Deumer to me too...I think its a Type B in para book...not sure about the catch from these photos though.

      Regards,
      Chris G.

Can anyone confirm whether the pin/catch is a genuine item or a replacement ?

Like others I always seem to be in state of learning when it comes 3R awards.

        Thank you. Willow

Pin appears to be a replacement, often pins and hooks are replaced on these badges due to wartime use.

Myself, I collect NZ vet bought back badges the majority of which are damaged due to being pulled of tunics, many have no hooks or pins, bent etc.

          Gives them character!

          Each to his own though.

            I agree fully nzef1940,

in fact it amazes me that collectors today ignore such icons of history. These were the birds that flew. They saw the kills or were killed.

Yet the collectors today of such badges pay a premium for mint unissued examples which in all likelihood saw nothing.

What is even more amazing is that collectors of Aftika tropical M40 caps will pay a fortune for a "faded been-there salty" example but if you offer a salty been-there pilot badge, gunner or para, some screw their noses up.

I suppose there is a bright side. Such gems of history are still very affordable today,

            Chris

Yes as you say, "Each to his own"

Some people enjoy collecting mint postage stamps, other value real history.

                I know what I prefer,

                Chris

                  Hi Willow,

I can only agree with the others, a fine original Deumer (Type B in the Para book as Chris says). The pin is indeed a replacement. I think the catch is OK, but would want to see a side shot of it to be sure.

It looks like a nice, worn piece with some honest wear, which makes sense with the replaced pin.

                  Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I agree and would rather have one like this than a mint one anyday.
