    unmarked FLL (catches)

Hi all -- 2 pics showing the catches of 2 different unmarked FLL badges -- one looks to be facing "left", the other "right" -- your opinions please

      Hi Ian

I wouldn't worry too much if the catch has been attached reversed - I'm sure this sort of thing happened. Typically though the opening would be to the right. The style varies between different badges from different periods of the war but here are an FLL pilot (now sold) and two FLL pilot/observers from my collection to compare. The only question is whether the 'left-facing' catch you show has been replaced or fixed, as that would affect value. I see no evidence that it has been re-attached and therefore, in my opinion, it makes no difference to value and is an interesting quirk.

A slightly different style from another FLL PO. This is on the version of badge with the 'Juncker-style' pin assembly, often thought to be earlier in date than the others shown.

            Hi Ian,

I think Tim hit the nail on the head here, and I agree with all he said.

Both catches certainly look original and the right shape and material, so it could just be a different worker preferring to put the catch on the opposite way. I would want to see closeups of it, with the pin out of the way to be sure it is not resoldered, but looks good from these pics.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
