            Hi Jordan,

Nice and rare Nickel Silver FLL badge, very hard to find.

I will disagree with my colleagues, to me this is a fine original pin!

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

You're right Tom. I did not have this type in my files. (I do now).
How many hardware variant types are there known for these NS FLL's?
              Three?

                Hi guys,

Frank, I only know of 3 hinge variations for these early FLL nickel silver flaks:

                1. Lazy Block Hinge
                2. Upright Block Hinge
                3. Tube Hinge

Both 1 & 2 use the typical FLL block hinge, and there are several characteristics to look for on these:

                1. Thin-walled central barrel in the middle of the block, in which the pin was soldered to.
                2. Gold colored solder
                3. Nickel silver pin
                4. large sweeping bend to the pin (not tight like most other makers).

All these features can be seen on Jordan's badge and that is why I think it is not a replacement. Also, the hingepin does not look messed with at all, another sign that it has always been in place IMO. Here are a few others FLL badges with decent shots of the hinge and pin.

                  Tom quick question,

The two examples you show have the same pin but the hook is bigger on the flak. I would think it should be the same. I know from badge to badge theres some very minor differences this one look very exagerate to me. The point have been also notice on another forum.

                  What you think?

                    Hi Seb,

Since the bend is sweeping, it suggest that FLL possibly bent these individually by hand rather than using a machine or jig. They vary too much to be bent mechanically in my opinion, so when you add the human factor into it there will be slight differences in the bend itself.

To me, the bend of the pin doesn't matter as much as:

                    1. The correct color of gold solder
                    2. The correct thin-walled central barrel in the hinge
                    3. The correct pin material being nickel silver
                    4. The hingepin looking completely intact and unmessed with

If the pin was replaced or resoldered, I think one or more of these items above would show, wouldn't you agree?

Also note the tool mark on the side of the hinge, it makes an indentation in the hingepin, so this is more evidence that the hingepin was never removed and has always been like this. If it had been removed, you would expect these marks to not be lined up IMO.

As for the tube , or what I call a barrel hinge, do we see these in different widths (the hinge itself)? I have one that is quite wide, like a Juncker, but seem to recall seeing some a bit narrower like possibly the one you show.

Hopefully I can buy this flak and if I do I'll post a couple of pics with its brothers,
