    Hi Frank,

I just PMed you on this, so ignore the PM. The wreath is definitley not tomback, a highier quality zinc alloy. The wreath is vaulted, I will try and het a pic of that as time permits.

This one is a hair splitter, after having it in hand and studying it, not the classical, but I have good feel for the piece. The catch does have a plate underneath it, which is the same width as the catch. I tried but culd not really capture this in a clear enough photo to make use of. If you look at the pic of the catch , you can almost see it.

Do you have any concern about the tail feathering and that one area of relief ?

    Measurments and weight ?

    Best Regards,
    JD

      Hi Frank,

The example that you posted looks heavier, can you post the weight?

I have to agree with Frank that I'm not entirely comfortable with this badge either Joe. The Osang MM and eagle by Osang just seem different than this badge you've got.

            Hi Brian,

I agree that there are some concerns, but the maker mark is not a red flag for me, only because I have seen a few variations on the mm on textbook examples IMHO.

            Do you agree?

I have seen other Osang MM's but mine is exactly like Frank's on this Para badge. So same MM on the para as Frank's and at least one other. So not much room there for variation from what I've seen although the mm is not the final deal breaker if everything else is perfect.

                Thank you Frank and Brian,

What are your thoughts on the size and weight differences ?

Frank's example looks like it could almost me tomback in some ways and the zinc alloy's used in Frank's also seem to be of a highier quality.

Joe, afraid I must agree 100% with Frank and Brian on this one.
The wreath really does look very good from the front but the differences in eagle, mm and hardware are to much from the norm, that coupled with the 2mm difference in size to the accepted originals is rather damming.
It COULD IMO be a very rare variation of the original Osang but then really only a badge for the advanced collector who is sure of what he is getting.
Also considering the large amount of Osang copies out there a difficult call.

                    Hi Skip,

Thanks for jumping in on this thread. I think that I will contact Detlev just to see what his thoughts are on this one. I agree with most of what has been discussed thus far, but, the piece really has that look of being an original piece regardless. If this one turns out to be a repo it is one of the better fakes that stumped me.

He agrees that the badge is original and I will be sending it out for his Expertise on Monday.

I would like to get an expertise on an Osang Para badge. Some of the members have their concerns. While the piece is not the classical set-up I have a hard time accepting the piece to be an outright fake. It is made very well and certainly displays the look and feel of an original example. I look forward to your thoughts. Here is a link to the thread; http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62422

Joe, with that catch and pin I'm not surprised. Were they using someone else's eagle?

Hi Joseph. I didn't say that your badge is an original, all I wrote is that I have no problems with you sending it to me. There is a reason why I write very short and precise e-mails. I prefer not to be misinterpretated.
                          regards

Sorry about that..........I guess that we will have to wait until Detlev has it in hand.

I will send it out on Monday.
