Never seen one of these and was wondering how common or uncommon they are. Any idea what the value on a mini badge like this would be?

I will disagree with you about that, I do not think it is not a fake. It does have poor detail but it is very small. Do they fake tiny badges like this? I have never been a badge guy but I have been collecting a long time and never seen another one of these.

I fully agree with Lubo, a poorly cast fake. Minis are in general 16mm (or 9mm), which is 3mm smaller than the coin illustrated. This +/-25mm size can be encountered in various shapes, IMO they are all bad.

Well if it is bad I am very suprised. It was in a small tin of ww2 U.S. patches DI's, and a couple german items (tinnies) at a yard sale in a small town in Washington state for 10 bucks. The thing is old crusty and the gold wash is abosorbing into the zinc like period badges. If indeed fake it is very old to have this patina.

I have both the pilot and pilot-observer versions, only mine have higher quality hinge/clasp setups. I've seen others at miliratia shows as well. Overall opinion is fake. I believe these may be cast from period stamped bronze LW award plaques (example here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=plaque).
