    Talking off Assmanns...

Would you just look at what I found on my door step today!

Very nice condition with plently of frosting still remaining on the wreath. Just a bit tarnished.

I've been looking for one in this condition for quite some time and now my patience has paid off handsomely

    Great badge

    Hi Richard,
Great badge! Assmann is my favorite maker and what a hearty badge they produced (you could knock someone out with it). I have an identical Assmann Observer in my collection. If your badge ever needs a home please give me a ring. I will let it play with this other Assmann badge.

    Again a super piece.
    Regards,
    Jody

      Very nice Rich,

Is it the stamped or raised "A" mark?

I love the Observer Badges by this maker. Trully massive, heavy and stunning. Here's mine that I got not long ago:

          Arn't they sweet!

Jody, they should be together, how about you send me yours . (Very sweet badge and a keeper, no doubt!)

Skip, it's the stamped 'A'. I haven't researched this yet but are the raised 'A' a slightly different eagle?

Rich's is what I call the 2nd patt & only has the recessed A, the 3rd patt can be found with recessed & raised A's. I will post my 3rd patt with raised A that arrived last week later this evening!

            Regards,

Are you saying the 3rd pattern has a different eagle?

The more I thought about it, I assumed the back of the die was altered at some point and the 'A' cut into that to give the raised 'A' on the bird.

Look foward to seeing it though to compare!

Yes, Look at the one posted by Yuri. Compare the 2 individual tail feathers & also the detailing of the feathering around the back of the eagles head, with your permission I will grab your pic & show the differences.

                  Regards,

                  Neil

The tail is easy & it is not just a finishing error as the feather details are different, around the neck feathers it is harder to see, but the deatils are sharper on one version over the other & wear does not come into it.

I must admit, I can't see the differences you mention. Could you post a full pic of your 3rd type so I can see it better?

I see a lot of similarities too, maybe a slightly reworked die?
