    800 marked Pilot's badge???

Its Seattle...its raining...a good day for a fellow addict to stop by
    for coffee and share militaria
Erich Stahlhut is visiting today and he's brought along a
    very...unusual... pilot's badge.
Its marked 800 on the back...
also double marked with a 5 on the pin...
the attachment system is similar to a kreigsmarine badge...
the rivets appear rusty in the photo, but that's just the base metal...maybe copper?
    top-hook and clasp are tombak...
wreath, pin and eagle are silver..
don't have a scale on hand but guessing it to be in the 60 gram
    vicinity??
Anybody ever seen anything like this??
    All comments welcome.

Interesting. Is the upper leg of the swas broken off or do you think it was made like that?

The upper leg is either broken off....or the whole swas was broken off and replaced.

Another thing we forgot to include in the original posting was the dimensional aspect of the badge: approx. 62mm wide and approx. 52mm tall.

                    Wow...how bizarre.

Check out the little tab thing on the hinge to provide tension on the pin.

                      hm

                      Hello,

HMMM , let me see and point me out my observations .

the silver mark is one odd and ugly placed number i must say, and that makes me kinda warry of this particular badge .

The detail on the eagle is IMHO not what a person would expect => it seems to be crude in a way and not the fine craftmanship one would expect from a Silversmith or whomever produced it..

There are other things i personally do not like but the above is just my humble opinion , i would say => Nope no possible addition for my little collection.

                      Friendly Greetings,
my collectionfield : German glider pilots

                        Hi Tim and Eric,
I think we've to deal with one of Dönitz Flight badges here or a Waterplain Pilot.(WasserFlugzeugführer zur See)
                        Very rare !!
                        No,seriously now,Ive seen a similar badge about 25 years ago in a friend's collection.
He then thought it was a rare piece.(and it is !)
The badge is cast,it's not silver anyway.
I can imagine a jewelers piece with that kind of Navy pin and hook though.
                        For me it's a rather old fantasy piece,but I like it .
I think these pieces do have a certain value, you don't see them that often.
                        I hope Eric didn't pay $ 800 or more for it !!!!
                        Great close ups though,
                        Thanks for sharing.

                        Jos.

                          That's a good point Jos.
Erich, that 800 mark on the back....is that for silver content...or is that a price tag!!???!!??
