There have been a few other threads in other sections showing individual's last purchases for the year, so I thought I would post my last purchase also. I bought this on 23 Dec as an early Christmas gift.
Attached are pictures of the Honor Goblet awarded to Unteroffizier Ranier Nossek.
Oblt Nossek entered the Luftwaffe in 1938 and served as an instructor until the fall of 1940 when he underwent pilot training. Following pilot training he was assigned to I/St G 2 Immellmann where he served as a Stuka pilot. During 1942 to 1944 he flew numerous ground support missions including 120 missions in support of the German 6th Army at Stalingrad. Sometime during this period he began flying anti tank missions. He was personally awarded the Knights Cross by Hermann Goring in Oct 1944. By this time he had flown over 600 missions and destroyed numerous tanks. In late '44 he was promoted to Leutnant and Oberleutnant. On 30 April 1945, when returning from a rocket attack on Allied vehicles, he and 2 other pilots were jumped by Spitfires from 350 (Belgian) Squadron while on landing approach. After a brief dogfight, Nossek was shot down and killed. Also killed in the same engagement was Hptm Kuffner (Oakleaves recipient)
At the time of his death, Obtl Nossek's total tally stood at 73 tanks destroyed, a destroyer and an oil tanker sunk in a little over 800 missions. During those 800 missions he was shot down 5 times to include one time 60 km behind Russian lines.
