    IMME Pilot badge...

    Talking of IMME pilot badges...

here's one that just happened to 'land' on my desk this morning

I'm 99.9999999999% it's A-OK (yes, it has a repaired catch), but would just like that 0.0000000001% assurance from you guys.

Tell it to me like it is.......

    Rich,

I would not want it in my collection. I does not look right to me for several reasons:

    1. The color is wrong. The eagle should have a very light greenish tinge to it.

    2. The rivets are wrong. They should be the "pinched" style.

    3. The swastika, eagle and wreath are too "smooth". The real deal looks like a rough-cut stone sculpture.

    4. It has that "fake patina" look to it.

The badge below is from Roger Bender's collection.

Thanks for the response. I'm not ruling this one out just yet!

      Reasons being :

I've researched this with as many examples of an JMME marked badge that I could find, and theres one in the main section of the site under luftwaffe Qualification Badges > Pilot's Badge and I'd say the rivets are identical.

The green tint to the eagle, I put down to corrosion over time. Maybe this badge was stored well and didn't corrode? Speculation only.

I will put up 2 better shots of the front and back later today.

In the mean time I invite any others to come forward with pictures of JMME pilots badges.

        Hi all,

Difficult this one. It looks good, especilly the brass hinge, what is the diameter of this hinge Richard, my Jmme pilot (from Detlev) is 2,7mm, the new copies seem to always have a silver hinge and it is dia. 3,0mm.
Like Yuri I also don´t like the rivets, Jmme generally has doomed rivets. I´ve noticed on the new copies that they always have the rivets with " hof " like your one.
Heres a scan of my expertise for the repaired Jmme

          Thanks Skip

I'll measure it when I get home. The rivet thing seems to be the issue, one other thing is the way the claws hold the swaz.

To be honest, too many little negatives, so I'm going zero tolerance and returning it.

            Hi Rich,

Yes your right, I had,nt noticed the talons, they do look strange.
Funnily enough theres another thread at the moment dealing with JMME. All seem to think the badge is original but it´s got rivets with "hof".
Is there an English word for the German "hof" ?. I´ve been living here so long I don´t knpw it anymore and "yard" or "garden" just don´t sound right.

I measured the diameter of the hinge. Guess what ... 3 mm

Here's a better front and back shot. Badge goes back tomorrow.

                  Hi,
I think we've to investigate Rich badge a little better.
The "rings" around the rivets isn't a point to say the badge is fake in the first place.
Jmme,as we know, was using the Junckerbadges and some Junckers are showing the rings around the rivets !
If the badge is a "super" casting, then it's a fake.
If the badge is die-struck (and fake) it's getting interesting !
We need some more info on this one IMO.
Here's some shots of a Juncker Para badge that shows the rings and the Jmme Pilotsbadge also has traces of that.

                  Jos.

                        Hello,
I agree with "Wespennest" about the rivets. This type of rivets is often seen on Juncker made badges.
Important, in my opinion, is if this badge was made by a die struck or ....
The badge may be cleande or something else.

                        Greetings

                          Rich,
Please don't jump to conclusions just yet. I think we should investigate the claws and swas on your badge. They look a bit suspicious to me. Other than that I don't have a big problem with your badge. Can we get a nice close-up of this area??
Be warned, Rich's and Roger bender's badges are earlier than Skip's and there will be a major difference in the claws, wings and other features.
I'll be back with pics later today.
Once again Rich, please check very closely to confirm whether or not this badge is in fact die struck.

Here are the claws and swas on mine......notice the classic cut out of the farthest left claw, just above the swas, to give it an angular look.

Here is an overview of the back of my Jimmy. I like to see the
angles on the back of the eagle and swas. Typical signs of hand
                              finishing.
Notice the hinge, nice and brassy looking. Also notice the rivets,
they have the circle, but also have just a bit of a pinched effect.
