    Unmarked Pilots badge on UK ebay sold last night

    HI,

    Anyone follow the Pilots badge that was on UK ebay? I was intrigued as it looked like a genuine Tombac unmarked piece. Of course suspicious because it was 'Private Buyers' only. He was also selling the duff Osang para covered on a previous thread. I had a go as I would pay by Paypal so covered against fraud through my credit card. Anyway had a couple of go's, did not meet the reserve & got outbid, amazingly it met its reserve a few seconds before the auction ended!

    Anyone here actually get it or a case of shill bidding???

    Hi,

    Not shill bidding, genuine sniping. Might be a repair to the reverse right rivet though (strange excess solder on the eagle). Nice obverse finish though. Fair price for a tombak example as well. We'll see I guess, and the PayPal option was used just in case.

    It will go partway to making up for that nice GWL Pilot's Badge that TC picked up the other week. The fact that that particular seller could only supply 4 year old GDM dealer pics was more of a worry than a private auction imo!

      Looks like it was an honest auction, just didn't want to spend more than I bid.
      Seen pics of that GWL, not one to have missed!

        I did take a risk, but it paid off, the badge arrived 3 days ago!!! It's like brand new, but textbook. Personally, I'm not crazy about mint pieces, I know, I'm a weirdo. Here is the GDM pic, my camera is put away at the moment.....

                Hi,

                It arrived today - nickel-silver eagle and wreath with blued eagle and moderately worn finish. Not as nice as Tim's GWL (not as expensive either!) but it sits nicely with my PO by the same unknown maker. The reverse right rivet isn't repaired after all. At least the seller was genuine, even if all his other offerings to date are fakes!
