    Assmann Para---very conviencing?!

    Hello Collectors,

as I am on the search for a nice early Assmann Para, I found this one in an Auction.

At first sight, it looks very good, but some details make me suspicious.

Please have a close look on this one. The seller claims this is a tombak one.

On obverse I have the following questions:

the feathers on the eagles body are "too detailed"
the wreath is not ok, some leaves look wrong to me
the wreath shows wrong shape, eg 6 o`clock position

    reverse:
the rivets do not match to this Assmann type
the maker mark should have no " hands" on this type
the hinge is not the right one for this type

Please correct me if I am wrong
Thanks a lot for your help
    Kind regards
    Martin

Martin, I agree with your points that the eagle is overly detailed, the rivets and wreath are not right. A very well made but none the less, repro.

I used to own one of these the eagles have sharper sides and a bit more mass than a real one.

          Hallo Martin,

Very nice analysis, I completely agree with you. This indeed is a well made reproduction and even made nicer than originals. But just like poor quality fakes are easy to spot, some of these "nicer quality than original" badges are equally easy to spot when you know how originals look like and feel.

Someone has been studying I see

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
