After seeing the 2nd. set of photos ,I am going to change my first opinion & agree with the other 2 Mikes that this badge is probably not a good one.I may be wrong but that is MHO.
What made you change your opinion I thought the 2nd set made it much better. You can see the detail in the wreath as well you can see the hands. But that's also my opinon.
greenmike13, your 2nd Set of pictures are better & show the soft detail of the Icarus & the leaves in the wreath , the crisp lines are not there also the #3 in the 63 looks to be the wrong font. Compared to the other (known to be original) badges posted for comparison this one is very close, but it just does not look right.
I feel like there's to many things correct on the badge to be fake. The hardest things to fake on these are the gulls and their 100% fine here. I think the loss of detail on the badge has happened because of storage etc. As for the number 3 Stijn said it could be a reissue or its Bs. But just throwing this out there is it possible they changed the font or different maker?
Thank you posting the additional pictures. That set of pictures show more thing that do point in the fake direction IMHO.
Look at the enamel on the soaring birds, that is not the kind of enamel one would expect to see on the textbook examples. It looks crude, on the textbook examples the is crisp, very nicely done.
The numbering is also not good, it looks much to soft => the numbers used to stamp these should all look the same, as these badges where clearely made by the same company, the numbering is also identical, whatever combination of number is found on the reverse.
I would like to see this on in the flesh but as it stands now i am still with my opinion. Not a good one IMHO. Examining it is the flesh could make the opinion change and then we can say 100 % sure.
