    Regarding Honor Goblets.

There is one I know of for sale from a trustworthy dealer, but still I would like to do some research on these. Can anyone point me to a book or even a website that has a comprehensive and exhaustive study on them regarding spotting the real thing and the finer details?

Would like to do some leg work on this one before I simply post it. I try to do that for most badges I run into all the same.

Your first port of call is the article on the ehrenpokal on the main WAF website:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/serv...blet/first.htm

There is a book with the winner (although not complete especially the early winners) but it only tells you the name rank and function with date of award.

That's about all I know that is available on this award.

      Hi There,

First thing to remember when applying the statistics shown in the forum article is that all pieces will vary. That is why the author has given average measurements. My goblet is alpaca and undoubtedly original, but varies from the statistics shown by 1 -2 mm in some cases (Base and opening diameters) .

The book I have is an original German publication entitled Ehrenblattspange - Ehrentafelspange - Ehrenpokal. It is by Horst Schiebert and printed by Podzun Pallas Verlag 1986. It lists in one third of the content winners of the honour goblet. However, not all names are there. I have seen proven originals which are not listed in this text. Glad to say mine is there. The book gives last name, first name, rank, trade/appointment and date of award (which is almost always a couple of days out of tandem with the date on the goblet.) It is a sound basis for further research. A large number of recipients also went onto receive the DKiG, and a cross reference with Veit Scherzer's book 'Die Trager Des Deutschen Kreuzes in Gold 41-45' often gives you a specific unit to research further.

My example is listed as awarded 20.4.42, but the goblet is engraved 16.4.42. It is to a Staffelkapitan. When I found pictures of my recipient I identified him as a Beobachter (Observer) by his badge.

Goblets are an area of collecting not thoroughly covered in texts, but my advice would be to handle an original if possible, study all the articles you can find and get a return guarantee. If you can, get photos and place them on the forum for comments before buying.

Good luck. When you get a nice one its fabulous !
