    Fliegerschutzen by Brehmer????

    Hello colleagues

I bought this badge from the Mohawk Arms auction around 1999 ... when first received I was very happy with it ... seemed fine for a zinc badge, but I had no references in pre-internet days (and pre- WAF ) which showed such a badge made by Brehmer, Markneukirchen. Asked around, but no other LW people had seen one, though the consensus was that it "looked OK". So it's remained at the back of my mind ... came across the badge over Easter when looking for something else in the safe ... took some more pics, but still not with the clarity which has almost become the standard here (Sorry, I can't get a decent pic of the maker mark.)

So here it is ... I'd be grateful for the thoughts of the LW badge people here ...

    Kind regards
    Paul

        Hi Paul,

looks very similar to a Deumer for me. Never seen any Luft badges except the Flak from Brehmer. Thats not to say that theres no such thing though. It looks believable, nothing that really screams fake at you. I´m not to keen on the hinge for a zincer, and on a late war badge I would expect to be marked with GB and not the full name. Can´t seem to see any shear marks around the outside either.
A plus point is the large catch plate, typical for GB Flaks and LGABS.

No definative answer from me but definatly worth further investigation. Don´t write it off yet.

*Thanks* for your comments Skip. Yes, it does have shear marks.
I've never seen any Brehmer marked LW aircrew badges in catalogues (and now on the net) over the period of my interest in these things (from the early 80's) ... original or fake . It would be great to know either way. Ray Zyla's catalogue at that auction had a small collection of LW badges (the pics even as recently as 1999 were about 1.5" x 1.5" ) - I'll try and find the catalogue over the next few days.

          Regards from Adelaide

            Hi Paul,

I tend to agree with Skip, looks very believable down to the block hinge typicaly found on the buntmetall luftflaks and the catch on a big catchplate found on their zinkers.

What is it with all these new discoveries lately. Makes you wonder what more might still be out there.
