A small contribution towards the study of transport clasps

Below you will see two transport clasps in gold. The top is tombac and the bottom one is a zincer that has lost all its finish. They are both the same maker , attributed to FLL by Jeff V. some time ago. What caught my eye was the eyelets that hold the hangar. I cannot remember any other clasp manufactured this way. So of course the question would be the same or different dies, etc. Upon inspection of the tombac example (of which I have two) they both clearly show that all these transport clasps were made as gold versions for hangars and that the hangar eyelets were filed off if not needed. Only one die is indicated for their production to my knowledge. I had never noticed this before and thought I would share. The bottom photo, although poor, shows where the hangar eyelets were removed from the tombac piece. I call this version of the flight clasp the parrot head because of the crown. Anyway, an interesting observation I have not heard before.

You know what. After I posted his I realized that they are probably not the same die! But - still both made to accomidate the hangar.

Very nice clasps Richard. And I agree with the others that these are 2 different dies.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
