    ehrenpokal

Hi All, Is there a reason you dont often see the Goblet awarded to higher ranking officers-- Its one of my favourite awards but i cant ever remember seeing one to a general or similar?

Hi Nick, Thanks for your post regarding my pilot enquiry.

The highest rank I have seen awarded an ehrenpokal is Major. I believe that this award was reserved for combatants and those directly engaged in the air war such as meteorologists. As promotion was so fast, most personnel earned the award while serving in the lower non commissioned or officer ranks. There are a few currently available from obergefrieter to oberfeldwebel dated 1942 - 43, but I have also seen a couple to Hauptmann.

I think you are right, and the higher ranks seem to have been awarded the German Cross in gold or above.
I managed to get a great silver goblet and large grouping this year,Have you got the Goblet for the guy you are researching?

        Hi Nick,

Not yet - but I know where it is. Its a near mint Alpaca version and I may go for it as the name is so rare and research may be possible with patience.

The Ehrenpokal were awarded to flyers primarily up to the rank of Major and below however I did find several Obersleutnants and two Obersts.

          Oberst Hermann Lessing 26.10.42

          and

          Oberst Alfred Wuebben 15.03.43

          Regards

          Jeremy
