    Original Hungarian Paratrooper Badge 1st Class

    Does anyone have a photo of an ORIGINAL Hungarian paratrooper badge 1st Class that they can post. According to the National Military Museum in Budapest, only 100 were made ( by only one maker ) and about 25 were actually awarded. It would seem also that there are four distinct differences between the originals and the flood of fakes that have been coming out of Hungary over the last few years.

      If you have a contact at the Hungarian Military Museum you could try asking them - there is one on display in the museum (original I assume) and they might be willing/able to provide you with some pictures. I didn't snap it I'm afraid!

        James, the one the museum has is bullion, not metal ( according to them at least )

            The Hungarian Fallschirmjäger under the command of Major Edömér Tassonyi fought bravely in front of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City>Budapest</st1:City>. Tassonyi received both the EK 2 u. EK1 on the same day and was also given a copy of the Wehrmachtbericht by Generalmajor Günther von Pape (Kdr. Feldherrenhalle). Pape also awarded the Hungarian parachute battalion 31. EK 2 u. 1. Krisztián Ungváry’s book “Schlacht um <st1:City><ST1Budapest</st1:City>” mentions that battalion having a strength of about 600 men at one time. It is doubtful if they were all ‘jump trained.”

              not to labour a point, but I'd swear it's a metal badge that's in the museum. They have lots of airforce insignia, pilots wings etc in bullion. But we're talking about the odd-looking skull-on-a-parachute badge aren't we? I'm sure that was metal. I think there's at least one forum member based in Budapest - maybe they could go and have a look, if only to put my mind at ease!

              Anyway, hope you find what you're looking for one way or the other.
