    Hi guys,

Frank, I think you are right for the most part, but some badges were still being made from tombak up until late 1944 such as the Presentation CCC in Gold.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Well, that badge is an exception to say the least. I could imagine a recipient of that award looking at it upon presentation and blurting "but it's feinzinc!"

I've read that bomber clasps are the most 'common' of the LW clasps, what other badges/clasps are relatively common and not too expensive i.e. a nice starting point?

In my short time collecting/searching I've noticed that KM and LW badges etc. are more expensive then Heer and general awards. I don't really know which road I want to take.

Firebee, go with what interests you. This hobby has many facets other than badges. But the first thing to do after you decide is to buy books and study here on the forum and be observant at shows. There are a lot of pitfalls for the unwary and uneducated.
            Best regards,
            Frank

Other than the cracks in the pin I would say that the clasp is in nice condition. Even the way it is, it is definitely collectible and certainly not "poor condition".
As for the crack in the wreath it is common to this maker, and as I always say, a little crack never hurt anyone
                  Regards,
                  Frank

I paid 195 euros for it. To me, it was a bargain.
For now, others in a better condition are too expensive, sadly.

Will receive the clasp sometime this week, ofcourse I'll post pictures when I have it.
