      Hello there,looks like a early war as the war progressed like many other badges they went to zinc but still had all the original characteristics of the early badges I have a very early nickel silver example if I get the time I will post some photos

          Are you saying that ALL pilot badges from this maker should have the bridge between the claw and the swastika arm regardless if tombac or zinc??

                As is pointed out above they do exist without the bridge but what I am saying is if I was not sure and it did'nt have the bridge I would probably walk away as I have yet to see a copy with the bridge,but given time I am sure one will appear,just for the record !!

                  If you know your badges then it should never be an issue.

                  The bridge not being there is not a bad sign. It's actually more rare for a tombac to have the bridge than not as it was mostly removed.

                    From my experience, the early tombak versions of this badge seldom have the bridge. I believe it was left on the zinc versions to reinforce the swastika, which tended to break off

                        HI,

                        This is a good mid war BSW with 2nd pattern marking (BSW in cloverleaf). Another thing which this badge exhibits which many BSW pilot badges exhibit is a hariline crack/fizzure on the eagles left wing (viewer's right - near the body). I believe this occured in some badges as the metal cooled at different rates and hence contracted at differnt rates cauising a fizzure.
