If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I had the chance recently to see and examine a pilot badge with this same eagle, which I had not seen before (although it reminded me of an early FLL) and was struck by the detail and quality of construction. The eagle I saw was very clearly die-struck with the Assmann mark, with absolutely no sign of casting at all (and I went over it very closely under a high-powered loupe). If it was a casting, it was at a level I've never seen anywhere before. The legs of the eagle, with their unique detailing, were absolutely perfect, as were all other parts of the eagle. The only reason I passed on it was because it did not match any Assmann I had ever seen. If it's a fake (and I will defer to others on that) it was the most dangerous one I've ever seen.

          Leroy,

Why is it dangeorus? It is not an Assmann design.

Marc - It is not a known Assmann design. If you saw this eagle anywhere else and it was unmarked, it would be accepted as real, IMO. We tend (rightfully I think) to reject pieces which "pretend' to be certain makers, but do not match other known pieces by those makers. This piece, without the Assmann mark, would pass all day long as a real badge.

I should have said "as a real eagle"!

The eagles head reminds me too of an early FLL.I've always liked the eagle eye to the FLL pilot. Made the eagle look mean with a distinct stare.

Compare this eagle to the eagle we've been talking about.
