Tom - Without committing to anything (), I would be very interested to see who you link to the "dot displacement" seen at the top of the wreath on these clasps.

For what its worth, I´ve seen several of these clasps over the years. I also know the common copy, thats fooled quiet a few people. Considering that these clasps are older than the copy I don´t think they are copys themselves. They may have served as a guide for the copy though.

The type of hinge used, very small and delicate, would lead me to the conclusion that such clasps are probably of an early production. Although I would have thought a round wire catch would be more appropriate to an early manufacture.

The only thing that really ever bothered my about these was the fact that the holes where drilled so close to the edge that they weaken the stability of the clasp quiet considerably. And the fact that there are no concentric circles in the reverse part behind the bomb. Although that is naturally a manufacturing techniqie that this maker may not have used.

Bringing this back up to the top with some food for thought. I found this recon clasp in a thread from 2003 originally posted by member Bad Bob. Check out setup, rivit, reverse, and wreath. Oddly the pin has been put on wrong way round but undoubtedly same maker.
Don't know of any others of this maker in recon, perhaps someone has another? Surely far too scarce to be copies?
