About 40 years ago in Germany when I was still collecting medals and badges I bought a Pilots Badge which I believe is certainly a reproduction. Should have known better, but for 35 DM I figured what the heck. There was not alot of detailed reference material readily available back then as there is today so new collectors even in Germany were very much in the dark. Particularly if you did not have a knowledgable individual who could assist steering you away from the many fakes about.
A picture is worth a thousand words so I will try and get them taken to better illustrate.
One point about the badge is that the wreath never had rivets and the eagle is soldered to the wreath. There is no makers mark. The detailing to the wreath and eagle are quite good as is the frosting to the back of the badge which even covers the areas of soldering. The badge is made of what feels to be a lightweight alloy.
Has anyone else come across a similar Pilots Badge? I would just like to confirm if this is just an old known style of fake.
