pilot badge opinion please

Well, what else is there to say? An absolute gem of a badge and an outstanding history to go with it! At first the 'different' rivits had me confused a bit too. I'm glad we now have an early ('36 CEJ) with rivits such as this badge has to refer back upon in the future. Thanks for posting this story and early badge for us to enjoy!

i am glad you guys like it and as yous ay you now have a 100% original that you can compare with regarding other early variants, and i am also very happy for the information you guys have given me about my badge..
allthough it was very dear to me and special it is now even more special as i now know that its such a rare item..
casimir had already been in service a while when luftwaffe was formed in 1936 ( he was in the reichwer in the 20`s ) and that is when he got this badge, so he was already a "veteran" in 1936. he was a most pleasant man and a real gentleman. It was a honor to know him. I hope he rest in peace and his legacy will be kept alive with his he 111

not sure if this is of any interest..but here is my casimir collection as i got a bigger frame to fit it all..also a few pics and a drawing from when he bombed the Oscarsborg fortress in the Oslofjord during the invasion of Norway. hope you guys in here like it

thanks. the vikingboat was the emblem for KGr 100. the picture of the vikingship is taken of casimirs personal plane when that was slavaged in 2004 when he also was present.

if you look at background-jonsvannet you will see his personal pictures of the same He 111 stuck in the ice..and also several others ( note the wikingship wmblem )

what is funny is that the emblem did not match the drawings made after the war of the emblem ( the colours was totally off and casimir confirmed that this was the original colours..it never had blue sky..as i asked him about that when i saw the emblem.. but still lots of people deny these colours as the blu sky wiking emblem has been imbeded in books and drawings for 40 years..( and always wrong ).. hehe
as he told me that this emblem was developed in 1939 under the "phoneywar" when they were attacking scapa flow and flew low over the english channel ( and as he said..it was almost always bad weather..rain, stormy seas and grey..and one of his crewmebers said that this was just like the vikings..and there the emblem was borne )

and another little thing that might interest a few..when the He 111 was comming up i was standing with casimir and he said something.."note that the flag on the wikingship will be red..this is for 1st gruppe.. second gruppe had yellow flags ( same as apinners ) and third had blue flag and spinners.. this was totally new to me.. but he was clear as a bell. remebered every little thing..
a few others did in between the interview with him ask controlquestions that we knew the answer to. and he got all those correct also so no reason to doubt anything else he said ( he turned 96 the same day the He 111 was lifted up )

That's a very nice and informative website you have there - very nice job! I really enjoyed looking through it and seeing all the amazing recovery photos! Arthur looked very happy at the time!

and Arthur was 20 yeras old , he was so happy and all over ( at the age of 96 ).. it was the best gift he had ever gotten in his life seeinghis plane sinking was the worst..getting it back was the best.. he was happy allright..

there is a dvd to buy ( 1hr ) with casimir with english text if you are interested in seeing it

but it shows only the 90firs seconds,,then you have to buy it..its cheap and well worth the money.. lovely story of a old german pilot comming to terms with the war and those he fought against.. i am in the extra material when we salvage the Ju 88 that was next to casimirs plane worth watching if you like luftwaffe..and if you buy it you can choose english text also.. i will say go for it..hehe
