This is a close-up of the mark. I think that it is a partial stamp of the D.R.G.M.

Hello Jack,
you're right,I've seen this before.
They polished and "flattened" the back and took some of the makersmark.
I recently saw another one with this feature,I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Thanks for sharing.
P.S. another possibility is that the eagle was made by "General Motors",that means that the USA was coloborating with Germany during the war !!?!!?!

luft big A eagles
Hello every body.I have been reading every bodies opinions what is right what is wrong but has any body spared a thought about the pin and catch assembly. Most big A eagles i have looked at they do not work and would fall off a tunic in no time.In my collecting experiance other AWARDS and PIN BADGES had the same charataristic, the pin assemblies just did not do what they were ment to do that is SUCCURELY attatch it to a tunic. All my known ORIGINAL Badges Awards have assemblies that work and it takes a bit of presure to undo the pin from the C hook. YOUR OPINIONS PLEASE Macca

Hello Macca,
I think it's just coincidence your pin is a bit sloppy,it happened to other badges too.
It's just a matter of bending the needle a bit.
None of the big A eagles I've seen had a sloppy needle like your one.
If you compare the needle, hinge and catch of the big A and the D.R.G.M. eagle you'll see they're identical.
I have both types and still can't find anything strange about the big A nor anyone can say till now where they come from, the only thing stands is that some collectors don't want them to be original because they lack the D.R.G.M. mark.

A eagles
Hi good people. My known originals have very sturdy pin assemblies which do not bend.after all this time i do not have to mess about with them to make them work the big A assembly is just to flimsey for my liking.I am not saying it is wrong or ok i am just indiferant.Still whith pieter on this one at the moment.Quote bend it back and make it work?I have never ever had to do that whith the ones i got off my grandad they are solid assemblies and made that way.On the big A pin assy and DRGM assy they seem to flimsey eg to easily bent.It would take alot of force to damage some of the known originals i have.Sorry dont like the big A or DRGM macca

Hello Macca,
Can you post some of your originals you have here ??
Maybe we can learn some more about them ??
Maybe you can tell us what's wrong with the DRGM badges too ?
