Latest Staegmeir Para fake - Assmann

    Hi guys,

Here is a recently made Para fake by our friend Staegemeir. Well made, but notice the weird texture of the finish and metal he uses especially noticable on the reverse.

    thomas,

good to post them here in the forum to protect collectors.

I was wondering. If Staegemeir is selling repros for originals, then it would be time to sew him in german court?!

    any evidence, bad experiences here?

      Hallo Martin,

IF he is making them in Germany, we might be able to sue him. I can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that these are fakes and "not like originals", but will a court listen?

And if we get rid of him, there will be others that follow. The best solution is to just do our homework and keep calling out his fakes for what they are. Fakes have always been and will continue to be a big part of this hobby and something that will never change in my opinion.

Will the badges hobby go the way of baseball cards and comic books? I certainly hope not...guys like this fellow do not make it more fun, but it is certainly rewarding when you come across original items,

Tom - This guy seems to have a problem with finishes and base metal. Does he make anything that is really convincing? I haven't looked at his site in a very long time.
              Regards,
              Leroy

                Hi Leroy,

Sure he does, he makes plenty of very good fakes. Here are just a quick 2 that I pulled out of my files. Sitting on a dealers table, I have to think that these would easily fool 50% of the collectors out there, and maybe even more. They are extremely well made and even after knowing EXACTLY what to look for on his fakes I sometimes have a hard time recognizing them. Make no mistake, he is really troublesome to the hobby.

What gave them away as being fake?

Several differences, but mainly all the fakes are the same. Same flaws and die characterstics that don't show up on originals. Studying his fakes are a good way to be able to identify them and I encourage everyone to visit his site and see for themselves:

Out of all I've seen by him, that Osang Para you just posted Tom is his best effort. If you don't know an Osang Paras traits, then this one is very dangerous.
